My favourite gym has been shut down!
As of Dec. 15, 2024 Performance Fitness and Pride Gym are no longer.
My family and I have been working out there (the best club in town, I think) for about 15 years.
What a blow to learn these two incredibly important and meaningful small businesses are being put out of business!
These past few months have been a bit depressing.
Nobody wanted to leave.
We know there is no other gym in town quite like ours. On display are a mix trophies and photos of winners who have competed in body-building, swimsuit and fitness competitions, inspiring us all to work hard and work often.
We’re like a family — people who’ve grown fond of each other as we take our path to bettering our lives.
A relocation hasn’t been possible and what a slap in the face to hear that some of our elected representatives have said, “He’s had plenty of time to find a new location.”
Really? Have you helped look?
I don’t think so.
The owners told me they’ve looked for years and there just isn’t anything.
Why is the city shutting the gym down now?
Why not wait until the demolition crew or the remediation company is ready to go, before evicting these two long-standing businessmen?
Profitable small businesses with long term loyal clientele are the heart of a thriving and successful community.
Why not allow these two to stay in place until it’s actually time to pull the plug?
The previous landlord attempted to sell about a year ago, but the deal fell through. Asking price was too high!
Instead of donating the building to the city, I would’ve liked to see him drop his price significantly and pass this place onto another business owner/investor.
Someone would’ve scooped up this building and been able to make a successful go at it, repairing the building, keeping the current businesses intact and us members happy!
Trail, the “Home of Champions” does not need another empty, abandoned, eye-sore of a building left downtown — not for one minute!
Low income housing has been suggested as an option, but when will that happen?
Instead, we need a safe and friendly town with profitable small businesses serving the community, offering good paying jobs.
Then savvy entrepreneurs will invest in ultimately providing the housing we need.
We’ll miss you, Mark and Deanne!
Thanks for being there for us!
Sincerely,
Donovan Brown
