Every day is a good day for a story with a happy ending.
This one unfolded the afternoon of Thursday, June 5, when frontline officers from the Trail RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to a report of a missing six-year-old girl in Fruitvale.
She had wandered away from her home on Webster Road.
Her mother had noticed the disappearance right away and believed her daughter had likely walked off onto a neighbouring property.
Officers quickly began searching the surrounding area.
Within an hour, a neighbour was alerted to the girl’s presence by a motion detector linked to his security camera.
Once informed, police made their way to the property and found the child playing contentedly with toys she’d discovered in the yard.
Officers noted the girl appeared to be unharmed, and in good spirits.
She was soon reunited with her understandably relieved parents.
“Trail RCMP would like to thank everyone who assisted in locating the girl,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
“The ride home in the police vehicle appeared to be fun for the girl as she quickly figured out how to turn on the emergency lights and siren.”
