Voters in Fruitvale have one last chance this Saturday to help fill the village’s vacant council seat.
The position opened last month when former councillor Wes Startup was acclaimed as mayor, replacing Steve Morissette, who stepped down after winning the Kootenay-Monashee MLA seat in the October 2024 provincial election.
Three candidates — Karen Halifax, Terry Skarbo, and Jimmy Swanson — are vying for the spot.
Whoever wins will serve on council until the current term ends in October 2026.
In addition to one day of advance voting last Wednesday, a special voting window is set for Friday, April 4, from 1 to 3 p.m.
This session is only for eligible voters living at Mountain Side Village and Beaver Valley Senior Citizens Manor.
General voting takes place on Saturday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fruitvale Memorial Centre.
All votes will be counted after the polls close.
Preliminary results will be announced that evening.
