Reggie Goldsbury has been acclaimed by the Liberal Party of Canada to run in Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies in the April 28 federal election.
Goldsbury is a fourth-generation Kootenay resident who is currently based in Cranbrook, with a resume that includes being a logistics manager at the 2010 Olympics, and a two-term former member of the board of the College of the Rockies. He has a bachelor's degree in rural sustainability.
Goldsbury says he is running for his children's future.
"I'm running for the future generation," he said. "I look at them and how much they care and love our Canadian flag and the lifestyle that I got to grow up in and I want to preserve that for everyone."
He is the former owner of the Dock 'n' Duck restaurant in Balfour, and currently works for the Ktunaxa Nation Council in the social investment field. His mother Robin Goldsbury ran as the Liberal candidate in the 2019 election.
Goldsbury said he is focusing on the issues of the day, including housing, affordability, health care, promoting local economies, and defending the region's resources such as softwood lumber, critical minerals and waterways.
"I'm so excited to be a part of this and so passionate and I really hope that we can grow this movement because I'm having people support the Liberal Party like never before," Goldsbury said.
Goldsbury was part of the Choose Balfour team in 2016 that he says convinced the province to renovate the Balfour ferry landing and build a new ferry.
In 2022, Goldsbury ran unsuccessfully for the Regional District of Central Kootenay board in Area E.
Other candidates in the riding are the incumbent MP Rob Morrison of the Conservative Party, Laurie Baird of the People's Party of Canada, Kallee Lins of the NDP, Steven Maffioli of the Green Party, and independent candidate Jim Wiedrick.
