The Kootenay Savings Community Foundation has gifted Diverse Family Roots Society a $1,500 grant to fund the purchase of four kayaks for the society’s R3SET 2025.
Canadian Tire in Trail has supported the initiative by reducing kayak prices, amplifying the impact of the donation.
R3SET (Reset), now in its third year, has grown into an annual camping weekend for families with children who have disabilities.
Held each August in Riondel on Kootenay Lake, the camp attracts families from across the Kootenays.
“The success of the event is the amazing community support that we receive for hosting this amazing weekend,” says Ben Postmus, executive director of Diverse Family Roots Society. “Last year‘s event the support was overwhelming and this year’s is already looking to surpass that.”
Operating without government funding, the society relies on grants, foundations, businesses, and individual donors to sustain its efforts.
“Groups and individuals have already begun to reach out and ask how they can support or how they can be a part of this weekend,” adds Postmus.
“That in itself is just super amazing.”
The society has also enhanced its website, adding a respite and community support directory where families can create profiles to seek assistance or offer services.
Additionally, an innovative tech-adaptive equipment share page allows families to donate or borrow items specifically designed for children with disabilities.
A resource page provides links to both local and provincial supports.
The society is actively seeking new partners and support.
