David Dudeck captures spring in full swing with striking photos of a butterfly and a curious little swallow greeting another bird inside a backyard birdhouse.
"Spring has really sprung with all the sights, sounds, and smells of this wonderful time of year," Dudeck says. "One sure sign of the season is the blooming of lilacs, quickly followed by the arrival of Swallowtail Butterflies."
In the Kootenays, several species of swallowtails can be spotted in spring, including the Western Tiger Swallowtail and the Anise Swallowtail.
These large, bright-yellow butterflies often glide through gardens and forest edges, drawn to lilacs and other blossoms.
Dudeck adds, "My neighbour’s birdhouse has once again attracted new residents, who are busy setting up home."
