A skier who ventured outside the marked ski boundaries at Red Mountain Ski Resort on Saturday required rescue after becoming lost, prompting a reminder from RCMP to stay within designated areas.

The incident was reported to Trail and Greater District RCMP on Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.

Red Mountain ski patrol located the skier before RCMP and search and rescue teams could respond.

Fortunately, the individual did not sustain injuries.

“Please stay within the boundaries of the ski resort,” urged Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

Backcountry skiing involves greater risks than resort skiing, especially if your adventure is not planned out carefully, he added.

"If you ski out-of-bounds at a resort, you may lose your ski pass privileges and access to the mountain, or worse, your life, if you are not prepared for the risk.”

Authorities are reminding skiers to be cautious and prepared when considering backcountry adventures.
