There was a fire on Aug. 11, 2024 at the Castlegar Division of Interfor (File).

A fire at Castlegar's Interfor mill was contained to one area thanks to the cooperation of three firefighting crews.

The Castlegar Fire Department was called to a report of a commercial structure fire on the log deck at Interfor at 8:21 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio said they were advised by fire dispatch that Interfor staff had begun to fight the fire. While driving to the scene, CFD was informed that Mercer Celgar's Emergency Response Team had joined the firefighting efforts.

The crews were successful in knocking down the fire. Once they arrived, CFD took over the efforts to completely extinguish the fire.

According to Lattanzio, the fire was contained to the upper log deck area and sustained minor damage.

The fire is being investigated by Interfor.

CFD responded with Rescue 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 1 and two command units with 17 members.

"CFD would like to thank Mercer Celgar ERT and Interfor staff for quickly actioning the fire to mitigate damages," added Lattanzio.
