Get ready for a blast of classic Canadian rock as The Stampeders arrive in town l on Wednesday, April 23, bringing their “One More Time” tour to the Bailey Theatre in downtown Trail for a night of unforgettable hits and memories.
The trio that defined the sound of 1970s Canadian rock will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., performing staples like Wild Eyes, Carry Me, Oh My Lady, Devil You, and Ramona.
And yes; Sweet City Woman, their chart-topping anthem that helped cement their place in Canadian music history, will be front and centre.
The tour carries extra meaning this year.
In March, original bassist Ronnie King passed away just before the Ontario leg of the tour.
His final wish?
That the band carry on.
Longtime friend and bassist Dave Chabot was already scheduled to fill in as needed and has now stepped into the role full-time.
King’s memory lives on at every show with a tribute video and road stories shared by fellow founders Rich Dodson and Kim Berly.
During their heyday from 1971 to 1976, The Stampeders were Canada’s most-travelled band, representing the country’s rock scene on international stages.
After disbanding in 1977, they reunited in 1992 at the Calgary Stampede and have kept the music alive ever since, earning accolades like a lifetime achievement award from SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada), and multiple inductions into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
