Trail gathers to see Santa ride through town

Hundreds of families gathered for the Santa Claus Parade in downtown Trail on Friday night

Hundreds of enthusiastic spectators lined the streets of downtown Trail on a mild, drizzly Friday night to welcome the guest of honour — Old Saint Nick — at the city's annual Christmas parade.

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, has a rich history dating back to the 4th century.

Inspired by Saint Nicholas of Myra, a Christian bishop known for his generosity and kindness, his legend evolved over centuries.

In the 19th century, he took on the jolly, red-suited persona we recognize today, thanks to the influence of writers like Clement Clarke Moore and illustrators like Thomas Nast.

The festive evening in Trail culminated with a magical tree-lighting ceremony in front of the Riverfront Centre, marking the start of the final stretch of the holiday season.

With only 12 days left until Christmas, the countdown is officially on.
