Samantha Murphy has been honored with the 2024 BC Public Library Directors’ Award of Excellence for her exceptional work as Director of the Trail and District Public Library.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding leadership among public library directors who are members of the Association of BC Public Library Directors.

Presented annually, the award celebrates a director who has significantly advanced their local or provincial library community through advocacy, innovation, or contribution.

What makes this accolade particularly meaningful is that it reflects the recognition of Murphy’s peers — other library directors across the province.

Murphy, who assumed the role of head librarian in May 2019, had been an integral part of the library team for five years prior.

Her roles included circulation, programming, and statistics clerk, as well as interim director.

“Libraries are cornerstones of the community, bridging physical and digital worlds, connecting community members, and leading the way in lifelong learning,” Murphy told the Times.

“Programming and inclusion for all demographics are essential.”
