A man and woman from Trail, were arrested Sunday afternoon after police reportedly seized a loaded firearm and suspected illicit drugs during a coordinated investigation.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 30, the Trail Crime Reduction Unit, along with frontline officers from Trail and Greater District RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Services, stopped a vehicle on Highway Drive in Trail.

A 41-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, both from Trail, were taken into custody.

The arrests were made in connection with a search warrant executed shortly afterward at a residence in the 3500 block of Marigold Drive, in Glenmerry.

During the search, officers allegedly seized a loaded firearm, a substance believed to be street drugs, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and that a report will be submitted to Crown Counsel recommending charges.

“With great support and effort from our Trail mayor and council, our Trail Crime Reduction Unit is again serving our community," said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

"The crime reduction unit will be hard at work targeting crime ‘hotspots’ within our community and keeping our community safe."

No names have been released.
