This weekend saw the Trail RCMP actively enforcing road safety, resulting in the detainment and penalties for two drivers on separate incidents.
Saturday, Sept. 7
A Trail RCMP officer on patrol noticed a vehicle lacking a rear license plate in the 8100 block of Highway 3B.
Upon stopping the vehicle, it was revealed that the driver, a 31-year-old man from Castlegar, was prohibited from driving and had no insurance.
Additionally, the front license plate on the vehicle was found to be registered to a different car.
The man was arrested for driving while prohibited, issued fines totaling $707 ($598 for no insurance and $109 for the wrong number plate), and had his vehicle impounded for up to seven days.
He is scheduled to appear in Rossland courthouse on Dec. 3.
Sunday, Sept. 8
During a road safety check on Highway 22 in Genelle, another Trail RCMP officer stopped a 23-year-old woman from Montrose.
Suspecting impairment, the officer conducted a breath test that resulted in a “warn” reading.
Consequently, the woman was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and her vehicle was impounded.
Sgt. Mike Wicentowich emphasized that the Trail and Greater District RCMP will continue their vigilant patrols to ensure the safety of roads and highways in the area.
