Trail pool re-opens Monday

Greater Trail residents welcome to re-opening of Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Sept. 9

The Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre is re-opening completely refreshed and ready for use on Monday, Sept. 9.

Every year in late August the aquatic centre is shut down to undergo a deep cleaning, upgrades, new additions, and sometimes complete overhauls.

“Our team has been hard at work during the first week of our annual shutdown to ensure everything is in top shape for your return,” the city said in a release.

The Fitness Centre and stretching room opened more than a week early, Aug. 19, after undergoing a deep cleaning of its ventilation ducts and rubber matting, stripped, cleaned and waxed floors, and cleaned equipment restored to weight room.

The front entrance also received a deep cleaning from dedicated staff.

The pools were drained and cleaned, cracks grouted and fixed.

The men’s change room saw major structural improvements to the ceiling in the shower area including the joists bolstered, new sheeting and ventilation installed, a new cement board installed and freshly painted.

In the guardroom and multipurpose rooms old cabinetry was removed, repairs made to drywall, an additional coat of paint and new cabinets and faucets.

“A huge thank you to all our … staff and maintenance crews, and public works employees for their incredible work,” the city said. “And thank you to our community for your patience and support.”

Trail Parks and Recreation has also released its Fall and Winter Program Guide.

Check out all the programs and activities offered and register for winter programs before Nov. 12 for recreation and Nov. 14 for aquatics.

The guide offers programs for all ages from pre-school swimming lessons to senior dances, independent workouts to personal training, as well as parks and rec events and activities, such as Christmas Camp Cawabunga and Golf and Tennis camps.
