A 38-year-old man from Trail was arrested on Saturday morning after a frontline RCMP officer allegedly witnessed a drug transaction in the 800 block of Victoria Street.
The alleged crime happened just before noon.
According to police, the officer approached the man and arrested him on suspicion of trafficking in a controlled substance.
During a search following the arrest, the officer allegedly seized several items, including packages of suspected drugs prepared for sale, a knife possibly classified as prohibited, a replica firearm, and an undisclosed amount of Canadian cash.
The investigation is ongoing, and Trail RCMP say they will be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel for charge assessment.
Police do not identify suspects by name until charges are officially sworn in by Crown counsel.
Anyone with information about suspected drug activity in the area is encouraged to contact the Trail RCMP.
