Trail and Greater District RCMP are holding to their ongoing message this summer: officers will be out in force patrolling local roads and highways in an effort to keep them safe.

Impaired driving

Half-past midnight Sunday (July 28), a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was patrolling in a marked police vehicle when he observed a driver allegedly unable to maintain her lane while driving near Genelle.

Police say the 35-year-old Kamloops woman was pulled over on the highway as the officer suspected her ability to drive was impaired by alcohol.

A demand was read to the woman, who provided a sample of breath roadside that, police report, resulted in a “fail.”

She was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and her vehicle impounded for up to 30 days.

“Trail and Greater District RCMP will continue to patrol our roads and highways in an effort to keep them safe for travel,” advises Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, Trail detachment commander.

Impaired driving

Saturday night (July 27), a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was patrolling in a marked police vehicle when he observed a driver speeding on Highway 3B near Warfield.

The officer confirmed via radar that the driver was allegedly travelling at 110 km/h in a 70 km/h speed zone, according to Trail RCMP’s July 31 news brief.

The man, a 22-year old from Kelowna, was detained in his vehicle on the roadside.

The officer suspected the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

Police report that a roadside breath sample resulted in a “fail.”

The Kelowna man was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle is in impound for up to 30 days.

As well, the driver was issued a $230 fine for having liquor in a vehicle plus a $196 fine for speeding.

Prohibited driver

Friday morning (July 26), a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer detained a Trail man, 45, and his vehicle on Helena Street, in downtown Trail.

The RCMP report that a police computer query on the vehicle’s licence plate revealed that the man was allegedly prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.

The officer arrested the man then released him at the scene.

The man’s vehicle was impounded for a week.

The driver is slated for a first appearance in the Rossland courthouse on Oct. 10.
