Short-term effects of MDMA include euphoria, increased energy, emotional warmth, distorted sensory perception, and decreased anxiety.

In a decisive operation on Sunday, Jan. 19, Trail and Greater District RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of 10th Avenue in Montrose.

The search, conducted under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Montrose man.

During the operation, according to the Trail RCMP, officers seized approximately 420 grams of a substance suspected to be MDMA, along with a digital scale and a cell phone.

The man was taken into custody but was later released.

While no charges have been laid yet, the investigation remains active.

"I would like to commend the officers involved for their work in this investigation and for continuing to keep our communities safe," said Sgt. Wicentowich.

What is MDMA?

MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic drug that alters mood and perception.

Commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly, it is classified as both a stimulant and a hallucinogen.

MDMA is typically used recreationally, often in party or club settings, and is known for its ability to enhance sensory experiences, increase energy, and promote feelings of emotional closeness or empathy.

MDMA use can lead to dangerous side effects, particularly when combined with prolonged physical activity, high temperatures, or other substances.

Consumption can cause an increased heart rate, high blood pressure, sweating, teeth grinding, dehydration, and potential overheating.

Overuse can result in serotonin syndrome, dehydration, or even fatal complications.

MDMA is illegal in most countries, and classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in Canada, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use under federal law.
