Young skaters and beginners of all ages are invited to learn new tricks and gain confidence on wheels this summer at the Trail SK8 Park.

Starting Tuesday, July 8, Trail Parks and Recreation will host free drop-in skateboard coaching at the park, located at Gyro Park near the boat launch.

Lessons will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. to noon through to Aug. 21.

Skatepark hosts will be on site to provide instruction on the park’s 13 features, including rails and a large bowl.

Helmets and protective armour are mandatory, and while participants are encouraged to bring their own gear, skateboards, helmets, and armour will be available for use at no charge.

Waiver forms must be completed and signed before each session.

Forms are available online or can be filled out at the park.

The Trail SK8 Park officially opened in October 2018 after construction by New Line Skateparks, a Langley-based company.

The project was supported through a combination of public funding and community donations, including $445,000 from the City of Trail, $150,000 from Columbia Basin Trust, and contributions from the Society for the Friends of the Trail Skatepark and the Murphy Family Foundation.

Donors who gave $100 or more are recognized on bronze plaques installed at the park.
