In celebration of International Credit Union Day, observed annually on Oct. 17, the Trail and Fruitvale branches of Kootenay Savings Credit Union have donated $850 to support the Orthopedic Enhancement Project at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH).
The donation, raised through their "Care Wear" initiative, was presented to Debbie Wood, board treasurer of the KBRH Health Foundation, by Paul Butler, Kootenay Savings branch manager, along with team members from the Trail and Fruitvale branches.
"Thank you, Kootenay Savings, for your continued support," expressed the KBRH Health Foundation.
International Credit Union Day, celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948, aims to raise awareness of the vital contributions credit unions and financial cooperatives make globally and to encourage greater member involvement.
Kootenay Savings’ Care Wear Program
If you visit a Kootenay Savings Credit Union location on Thursday, Oct. 17, you’ll notice employees wearing their signature Care Wear shirts.
Each time an employee wears the shirt, two dollars are raised for charity.
Launched in 2004, the Care Wear program allows Kootenay Savings employees and directors to dress casually each Friday (or Thursday for International Credit Union Day).
Participants contribute $1 per week, with the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation matching every donation.
Once a year, each branch donates the funds they’ve raised to a local charity.
This year, $21,428 is being distributed to 26 deserving organizations.
"On behalf of Kootenay Savings, thank you for all the work you do to give back to our communities," says the credit union staff.
