Police say a review of surveillance footage backed the business's story.

A woman’s complaint to police shattered under scrutiny police say when video footage reportedly revealed she was behind the alleged vandalism herself.

This short-lived whodunnit began Monday morning (June 30), around 9:30 a.m., when Trail RCMP received a report of damage to a vehicle stored at a business in Genelle.

Police say a woman claimed the windows of her vehicle had been smashed overnight while it was securely parked on the property.

An officer began investigating the report.

When he contacted the business, staff told him the woman had allegedly threatened to break into the yard and her own vehicle after being denied access to retrieve an item from her vehicle after hours.

A review of surveillance footage backed the story.

Police say it showed the woman climbing a fence, smashing every window of her car, grabbing something from inside, and leaving the scene.

When confronted with the footage, police say she chose not to pursue the matter further.

“At least no one was framed in this crime,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
