Editor's Note: The Green Party replaced their candidate in the riding following the original publishing of this story. The current candidate is Philip Mansfield.
The Liberal Party also announced Gloria Morgan as their candidate for the riding, bringing the total to five. No independent candidates registered to run in the riding.
A federal election has been called for April 28 and so far the Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding has four candidates in the race: one Conservative, one Green, one NDP and one People's Party of Canada.
No Liberal Party of Canada or independent candidates have been announced.
The deadline for candidates to register is April 7, with the final list being published by Elections Canada on April 9.
So far the candidates that have declared are as follows:
• Helena Konanz, Penticton city councillor, running for the Conservatives
• Philip Mansfield, an AI engineer and researcher with Google, running for the Green Party of Canada
• Linda Sankey, executive director of the South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society, running for the NDP
• Barry Dewar, businessman and former Kamloops Storm owner, running for the PPC.
There will be four days of early voting, from April 18 to April 21, with general election day being scheduled on April 28.
Polling locations have not been announced.
The riding underwent changes following the 2021 census and the ensuing 2022 redistricting, and now extends as far west as Princeton through the Similkameen Valley.
The previous South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding had been represented by the NDP's Richard Cannings from 2015 to 2025.
