Nominations to fill a vacancy on the Kootenay Columbia School District 20 board will open up on March 5 and close on March 15.
A byelection to fill one of the two Castlegar representative seats is being held after Gavin Fox stepped down as a trustee in January.
Nomination forms are available at Castlegar City Hall and online at Castlegar.ca/elections.
Candidates must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older, a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed, and must not be disqualified under the School Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office as a trustee, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
If you decide to run, the campaign spending limit for the byelection is $5,784.48, as set by the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.
In order to vote in the election, you must be 18 years of age or older, a Canadian citizen; a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day of registration and a resident of the City of Castlegar or School Trustee Electoral Area 2.
Non-resident property electors must meet the above requirements except for residing in the city or trustee electoral area, instead they must be a registered owner of real property in the City of Castlegar or School Trustee Electoral Area 2 for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration.
If you are unsure as to your status on the official list of registered electors, you can call or visit Castlegar City Hall between March 5 and April 20.

Mail-in voting will be allowed for this byelection. Applications for ballots must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 22.
Advanced voting days will be Wednesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 17 at the Castlegar and District Recreation Complex at 2101 6th Ave.
In-person voting on election day will take place on Saturday, April 20 at the Castlegar and District Recreation Complex.
