A man who struck his brother in the head with a large axe-like instrument this summer has been sentenced to two years in jail.

Bruce Lajeunesse appeared in Castlegar Court Tuesday, pleading guilty to the charge of assault causing bodily harm.

Since he has been in custody since the incident occurred this summer, Lajeunesse only has to serve two years of the 30-month sentence he received. He was also issued a 10-year firearm prohibition.

Police described Lajeunesse’s 24-year-old brother as a “lucky boy” after he was attacked by 41-year-old Lajeunesse in August and survived a serious head injury.

When police arrived, the victim was bleeding heavily. After being transported to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, he was flown to Kelowna, where he underwent surgery for two serious skull fractures.
