On Thursday afternoon the Ministry of Health released an advisory that Katrine Conroy, MLA for Kootenay West, on behalf of Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, would be making an announcement about healthcare services in Trail.

That event is slated for Friday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. in Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

While there are no hints what it might be, for some time the matter of proceeding with large-scale renovations to the hospital pharmacy and ambulatory care have been ongoing between the ministry, the West Kootenay-Boundary Hospital District, and Interior Health.

The Trail Times talked with Trail Mayor Lisa Pasin in early January about what residents can look forward to in 2019, and the hospital did come up.

“A notable project within the City of Trail is the $19-million expansion of the Emergency Department at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH),” she said at that time.

“This government run and funded project will increase the size and capacity of the by the Emergency Department to the level necessary for our regional hospital. If the Phase 2 Ambulatory Care/Pharmacy expansion is approved by the government, city council will discuss endorsement of the second access road to KBRH.”

Stay tuned for updates later today.
