DAY 3 UPDATE: Evacuation orders lifted; Castlegar wildfire 90% contained

Evacuation order for 31 properties continues

All evacuation orders related to the Merry Creek wildfire have been rescinded.

BC Wildfire crews reported good headway against the 20-hectare wildfire burning in Castlegar.

The fire has been downgraded from out of control to active. Those on the frontlines have been able to contain the fire by 90 per cent since it sparked on July 1.

On Friday, structure protection crews were able to place resources on all homes requiring protection, with work focused on danger tree assessing and falling, while helicopters continue bucketing activities.

BC Wildfire Service said crews will continue to attack the blaze.
