Exhausted Fruitvale senior found safe and sound

A Fruitvale senior's walk ended with him getting whisked away in an ambulance in the wee hours Friday morning.

His wife reported him missing when eight hours had passed since he left the house, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton.

“He was last seen going for a walk toward the railroad tracks,” said Hawton in a news release. “Being away for this amount of time and that late was definitely not normal.”

South Columbia Search and Rescue was activated after midnight and the man was later located near the tracks east of Fruitvale at about 2 a.m.

“He had become exhausted and sat down, however was then unable to get back on his feet,” explained Hawton. “There were no obvious signs of injuries, however hypothermia had started and he was taken to hospital by ambulance for examination.”
