Fruitvale clinic reopens after fire

The only clinic in Fruitvale reopened Wednesday after a fire last Friday night shut down services for a couple days this week.

Appointments were cancelled at the Beaver Valley Clinic during this time while cleanup ensued to get the facility back up and running in no time.

“We were in and out in very short order,” recalled Deputy Fire Chief Dan Derby of Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue. “Their heating and ventilation system had a problem and caught fire but it was pretty minor in nature.”

A doctor was alerted by the office’s fire alarm system and was dousing the flames with an extinguisher when members from Fruitvale, Montrose and Trail arrived to finish the job off with just a little water. No one was injured in this after-hours fire.

“Had it not been for the monitored system it could have been a lot worse,” said Derby.

Staff at the clinic were thankful the fire was minor and didn’t inconvenience too many of their patients.
