Fruitvale - Visual cue to remind drivers to share the road

White fog lines will be painted on a section of Columbia Gardens Road to offer a visual cue to drivers to share the road with pedestrians.

“It’s a start anyway and we’ll monitor it and see how it goes,” said Fruitvale Mayor Libby Nelson.

This after the village asked the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to put in a sidewalk or pedestrian pathway in between Blue Bird Road and Mazzochi Park.

“This was another area that has been mentioned as being a little bit uncomfortable for walkers,” said Nelson. “The traffic moves at a reasonable rate of speed there and we just had the feeling that a sidewalk would be useful.”

Along with the fog lines, the ministry has agreed to shoulder grading along this section of the road and will install new pedestrian “Share the Road” signs.
