Greater Trail on the Beat: Liquor the root of carnival calls

No major problems were encountered with this year’s Rossland Winter Carnival from Jan. 25 to 27, but there was significant public drinking.

No major problems were encountered with this year’s Rossland Winter Carnival from Jan. 25 to 27.  However, there was a significant amount of liquor on the street, which resulted in over 30 liquor tickets being issued, and three impaired drivers apprehended. Two people were arrested for causing a disturbance, and served violation tickets for being intoxicated in a public place.

On Jan. 22 police were called to an extended care home where a patient had threatened staff members.  The situation was de-escalated and no charges were laid.

On Jan. 24, an officer on patrol observed a well individual on Rossland Ave. in Trail who was violating his probation conditions by being away from his residence contrary to his curfew.  Upon seeing police, the suspect ran, shedding his jacket and sweatshirt in the process and leaving them in the middle of the road.  He was arrested at this residence later in the morning and charged with five counts of breaching his recognizance and probation order.

On Jan. 28 police attended a motor vehicle accident on 4th. Ave. at Goepel St. in Trail.  One car was speeding in the school zone and attempted to pass another when it met an oncoming vehicle.  The first vehicle swerved back into it’s own lane but lost control and went over the snow bank.  The driver was issued violation tickets that resulted in fines totaling $558, plus a tow bill.
