Man gets jail time after second coke bust

A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 months after trying to swallow evidence to hide it from police.

A 39-year-old man swallowed a 15-month jail sentence in Rossland Provincial Court Monday after trying to hide evidence of his actions from police on Saturday.

It was a tough pill to digest for Leonard Ablong Dyoco, much like the cocaine he ingested at the time of his arrest.

Dyoco spent the night hospitalized while recovering from cocaine consumption after police spotted him in the CIBC parking lot late Saturday night, said RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr in a press release.

“Investigators recovered additional cocaine on Dyoco during his arrest and he spent the night in hospital recovering from the effects from ingesting the cocaine,” he said.

Eight weeks before this, Dyoco was found on Fourth Avenue with cocaine packaged for distribution. Dyoco was arrested July 18 for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Dyoco entered a guilty plea in Rossland court Sept. 17 in relation to both incidents.

He was sentenced to 15 months in jail, followed by probation.
