Trail’s Royal Theatre is offering a world of entertainment to Kootenay culture vultures.

“A total of 28 shows will be gracing the silver screen, with such well-known productions as Swan Lake, Don Giovanni, One Man, Two Guvnors and more,” theatre operator Lisa Milne said on Monday. The special presentations are in addition to the theatre’s regular selection of movies.

The Royal, which has been screening live productions of New York’s Metropolitan Opera and the Bolshoi Ballet for the last two years, is adding Great Britain’s National Theatre Live presentations to its 2011-2012 schedule.

“Our season kicks off with the Bolshoi Ballet’s Swan Lake on Sept. 11 and 12,” Milne said. “That will be followed later in the week, on Sept. 15  with our first National Theatre Live production of One Man, Two Guvnors. The Metropolian Opera makes its debut Oct. 15 with Anna Bolena. …

“Response to our Met Opera and Bolshoi Ballet screenings has been very positive. We draw viewers from all around the Kootenays. Now, we are excited to be adding theatre to our schedule.”

To encourage multiple visits, Milne said the theatre is offering mix-and-match event passes, with which holders can choose any eight performances for the price of six. Passes are $144 and go on sale on Sept. 1. Single admission for the live performances is $24.

Shown in high definition and digital surround sound, performances start times and dates vary. Visit www.royaltheatretrail.com or the box office at 1597 Bay Avenue in downtown Trail for a complete 2011-2012 listing.
