Middleman takes on sewer task

A familiar face has been hired on as a mediator for determining a fair restructuring of regional sewer costs.

George Paul, who previously reviewed local library operations, will help figure out cost sharing for Trail, Warfield and Rossland.

Past disagreements loomed because Trail deemed the sewer review incomplete because of the unresolved issue of an alternative funding formula. The city sought a formula based on usage while Rossland maintained that sewer costs should be shared based on flows, which have historically been unreliable despite attempts to fix flow meters.

The three parties will participate in mediation and a new funding formula will be reworked and standardized to accommodate current and potential users.
