New women’s fitness centre offers journey to a healthier lifestyle

Women’s Journey to Fitness is at 927 Spokane Street in downtown Trail, and it is all about helping you look and feel your best.

Ladies, want to have fun while you tone muscles and lose those extra inches?

Women’s Journey to Fitness is now open at 927 Spokane Street in downtown Trail, and it is all about helping you look and feel your best.

The women-only fitness centre is the vision of local health care coworkers and friends, Sabine Mann and Maureen Dilling.

Mann, who has always wanted to run her own gym, jumped at the chance to purchase the hydraulic exercise equipment from Better Health and Fitness when its doors closed late last year.

“We had been wanting to go into business for awhile,’ said Dilling

“So when the machinery came up for sale, we just knew this was it.”

Both Mann and Dilling strive to help design the perfect workout to achieve fitness goals and put the spring back into your step.

With clients from ages 19 to 81, they will personalize each program to help set individual fitness goals; focus on specific areas most important to each member; motivate and challenge to achieve fitness goals; and ensure that the workouts are safe.

“First of all, we believe that all women are beautiful just the way they are,” Mann.

“But each person has a unique challenge and we are here to help her achieve it.”

Thanks to a 30-minute circuit-training workout, members can get back to the day quickly; feel relaxed and ready to go.

In addition to circuit training, the gym has a treadmill, elliptical machine, exercise balls, and free weights.

“Our focus is on losing inches, not so much on weight,” said Mann.

“We want to help women change and feel better about themselves.”

“But we don’t believe in pushing our member, unless she asks.”

“Then I will push her hard, really hard,” she warned.

Circuit training is a form of body conditioning or resistance training, using high -intensity aerobics.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise circuit is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program.

When one circuit is complete, the first exercise begins again for the next circuit.

Traditionally, the time between exercises in circuit training is short, often with rapid movements to the next exercises.

Dilling, who works the circuit with members throughout the day, said that besides working on muscles, her favourite part of the job is the socializing aspect.

“We want our members to feel like this is their home away from home, ” she said.

“We own the gym, but our members make the gym.”

Mann and Dilling are committed to offering extended hours to accommodate busy schedules.

The gym is open at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Saturday hours are 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and closed Sunday for family time.

The women have planned a grand opening on April 12, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

That day, Women’s is collaborating with neighbouring businesses to host a fun and interactive event.

“Our focus is women’s wellbeing, but also making a difference in downtown Trail,” said Mann.

“To us it is important to support each other because together we are stronger.”
