The Rossland courthouse was evacuated Thursday following a threat made to the Crown counsel office in Nelson.

The false alarm resulted in about 30 people – lawyers, prisoners and staff – being evacuated from the building at 10 a.m.

After a search by Trail RCMP and B.C. Sheriffs determined that there was no scare, court was back in session just less than two hours later.

“It was a phone call that was made to Crown counsel in Nelson that caused us to feel that the security and safety of the people at the courhouse in Rossland may be threatened,” said Cpl. Devon Reid.

Reid was among the onslaught of police officers, who barricaded the street and helped evacuate the building.

Police would not provide specifics about the threat at this time but did say an investigation into the individual who made the phone call continues.
