Police respond to false alarm at mall

Two false alarms at Waneta Plaza wound up only robbing customers of shopping time.

Trail RCMP responded to a bank alarm at Kootenay Savings Credit Union Tuesday at about 9:45 a.m. and while the police secured the bank, a second call came in advising that Rave’s Restaurant next door may have been robbed, too.

“Police secured both locations and the subsequent investigation revealed that the bank may have triggered the alarm while moving a safe,” explained Trail Sgt. Rob Hawton in a news release.

“The confusion appears to stem from someone listening on a police scanner and calling Rave’s to report the robbery next door.”

Mall patrons were asked to leave the public area while the police investigated the mix up.
