Regional District of Kootenay Boundary serving up town hall meetings

The inner workings of the RDKB and how it affects the taxes people pay will be topics of discussion at upcoming town hall meetings

The inner workings of the regional district and how it affects the taxes people pay will be topics of discussion at town hall meetings planned throughout the area in the coming weeks.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary board of directors will be hosting a series of meetings beginning tonight throughout electoral areas for residents, taxpayers and interested individuals to learn about how the regional district operates, as well as to relay information regarding the 2012 budget and the 2012-2016 five-year financial plan.

It is expected that RDKB staff will also have information regarding the legislative framework the regional district must abide by, as well as what regional and specific electoral area services are provided for, and how much taxpayers pay for them.

Within this, information on how levels of taxation are determined for each electoral area will be presented.

The town hall meetings are also an opportunity for people to comment on the 2012 budget — currently in the works for the regional district — and an opportunity to relay any views on what kind of local government services needed to make the area a better place to live, work and play.
