Reports of a person in the water had river rescue crews sweeping the Columbia River shoreline Thursday afternoon.

The call came in around 12:30 p.m. and had Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue teams searching from the Victoria Street Bridge south to Rock Island and performing a grid search between the two bridges.

Trail police received a call of a person on the (Victoria Street) bridge threatening to jump in the river, Sgt. Darren Oelke told the Trail Times.

He said the person was reported seen walking to the other side.

“We are just trying to confirm the person's whereabouts,” he added. “To be 100 per cent sure (the person is not in the water) between both bridges.”
