Trail police are advising drivers to remain on scene if they cause any sort of vehicle collision; or get ready to cough up a pile of cash to cover a hefty fine.
This public notice follows a Sunday morning report to the RCMP after a hit and run occurred in the 1900 block of Columbia Avenue, Rossland.
The attending officer was informed by a witness that a Ford pickup truck had allegedly struck a parked car, and both vehicles sustained damage.
The officer located pieces of the truck and tire marks at the scene. Upon further investigation, the officer located the truck in-question parked outside a business with debris from the parked car still on the bumper.
The officer made an inquiry at a nearby business which led him to tracking down the driver a short distance away.
Police say the driver, a 49-year old Rossland man, was cooperative and allegedly admitted fault in the crash.
The accused was issued a $368 ticket for failing to remain at the scene as well as a $598 fine for driving without insurance.
“I would like to remind the public that you must remain at the scene and provide your information to the other driver or owner if you are involved in a motor vehicle collision,” says Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
