A 26-year-old man busted with pounds of marijuana in his vehicle along with plants in his Rossland home faces 90 days jail time.

Nathen Dean was sentenced Jan. 23 after pleading guilty to unlawfully possessing a controlled substance exceeding three kilograms for the purpose of trafficking.

Cpl. Darryl Orr of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment said it’s rare to see such a quick turnaround.

“This one was a completely proactive investigation,” he said. “One of our investigators got onto it and worked it and took it to search warrant within a few days, gathered the grounds and then bingo, bango and boom the next thing you know the guy is pleading guilty and going to jail for 90 days.”

The Trail Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at the residence in Rossland at nearly 4:30 p.m. Jan. 19, where the indoor marijuana grow operation containing 87 plants was discovered.

Attending officers also located 11 pounds of packaged marijuana in the man’s vehicle parked at the home at the same time.
