School District 20 budget process goes public

The filleting of next year’s school district budget will continue with a meeting open to the public Wednesday (6 p.m.) at Trail Middle School.

School District 20 (Kootenay Columbia) board of trustees will be receiving presentations from its two unions — including the teachers and CUPE — and the District Parents Advisory Council.

Presentations are based on what they perceive as being the future of education as they see it in the district. SD20 chair Darrel Ganzert said they will also be going public at the meeting with possible budget cuts.

“The management team presented us with enough areas that we can cut and possibly charge fees for,” he said, to make up the shortfall from the province.
