Jet fuel spilled from a tanker truck in the Slocan Valley a day earlier, had accumulated downstream Saturday in the Kootenay River above the Brilliant Dam near the confluence with the Columbia River at Castlegar.

A Ministry of Environment spokesperson said at about 1:30 p.m. that a boom had been put in place and its effectiveness in containing the fuel was being monitored. The spokesperson said it was unknown at that time whether any of the approximately 35,000 litres of fuel which had ended up in Lemon Creek on July 26 had made its way through the hydroelectric facility.
