‘Suspicious’ fire guts West Trail home

The house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived

Police and the regional fire department are investigating the cause — reported as “suspicious” — of a blaze that ravaged a West Trail home Thursday night.

A crew from Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to the 9-1-1 call of a house fire at the top end of Buckna Street, shortly before 11:30 p.m., June 6.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames.

“The incident became a defensive fire due to the amount of structure involved, and decreased structural integrity,” reported Acting Captain Kyle Boutin.

Boutin noted the fired as “under control” at midnight.

A crew of 10 from Station 374 Trail attended, supported by three firefighters from Station 372 Warfield.

The cause, as of June 9, was reported as suspicious in nature.
