Footage from surveillance cameras on Cedar Avenue in downtown Trail led to the arrest of a man for sexual assault on Sunday.

The 36-year-old Trail man approached a teenage girl who was sitting on a bench and began touching her inappropriately. According to a police report, the girl was able to break free from the attack and contact the police from her place of employment.

“The victim did not know her attacker but was able to provide a description,” said RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton in a press release.

There were no other witnesses, but the girl’s description of the man and the camera footage helped police identify and arrest the man six hours later.

He was charged with sexual assault. He will appear in Grand Forks Provincial Court on July 11.
