A Trail man remains in critical condition at Vancouver General Hospital, after a single vehicle collision north of Nakusp Saturday.
The 38-year-old Trail man was a passenger while a 25-year-old man from Revelstoke was at the wheel. The RCMP have yet to release the names of the men.
According to police, early Saturday morning a man was walking on Highway 23 roughly four kilometers north of Nakusp. The man noticed a grey Ford pickup in a ditch. He found two men at the vehicle suffering from injuries. The bystander then contacted the RCMP.
Personnel from the B.C. Ambulance Service along with RCMP officers and members of the Nakusp Volunteer Firefighters arrived at the scene. The two men were quickly transported to the Arrow Lakes Hospital to receive treatment.
However the seriousness of the injuries needed further attention. Air Ambulance then flew the men to the Vancouver General Hospital.
The RCMP report that seven hours before the collision the 25-year-old had been pulled over by officers. He was found to be impaired and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
RCMP investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision and that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending against the driver.
