Police said Tuesday they are pulling back from York Landing, Man., after a tip suggested the pair was spotted at a Dumpster in the remote northern town. Police said they could not substantiate the report after diverting several officers to the area.

This means the last confirmed sighting of the two young men from Port Alberni was back on July 22 in Gillam, Man., when the Toyota Rav-4 SUV they were believed to have been driving was found torched.

McLeod and Schmegelsky, ages 18 and 19, are charged with second-degree murder in the death of UBC lecturer Leonard Dyck of Vancouver. His body was found near Dease Lake on July 19, five days after Chynna Deese of North Carolina and Lucas Fowler of Australia were discovered shot to death further north, on a highway near Liard Hot Springs.
