In loving memory ~
It is with shattered hearts and profound sadness that the family of Alan James Karges of Warfield, BC announces his passing on January 23, 2023 while he was visiting family in Ontario.
Alan was the second child of three, son of the late Oliver and Elsie Karges of Listowel, Ontario. He was raised in Listowel, attended the University of Waterloo and later moved to Trail, BC after accepting a position there as a mechanical engineer at Teck Cominco.
The West Kootenay was the perfect location to pursue some of his favourite activities including skiing, sailing and golfing. He often claimed he went west to ski and never returned to Ontario.
Alan was the loving husband of Rose (Amantea) Karges, whom he married in 1981.
Predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law Francesca Amantea and brother-in-law Gino Amantea, Alan will be missed by his family in both Ontario and BC. Alan was brother to Don (Lesley) Karges of Woodstock, ON and Peter (Debbie) Karges of Port Rowan, ON, son-in-law to Tony Amantea and brother-in-law to Pasquale (Aina) Amantea, Mario (Mary) Amantea, Dennis (Terri) Amantea, Mike (Carolyn) Amantea, and Sherry Amantea.
Al was the proud uncle of Tracy (Ben), Kelly (Kamar), Reid (Jelisa), Dean, Peter (Raquel), Angela (Derek), Jeff, Jill, Michael, Dominic, Jordan, Maya, and Jake. He was also great-uncle to Megan, Ruby, Santino, Alivia, Carter, Luca, Lexis, Savannah, Nevaeh and Amora.
Alan was quick to learn and developed skills that allowed him to take on many "do it yourself" projects around their home. When not tinkering in his workshop, he was happiest travelling with Rose and spending time with family and friends. Alan was also an avid reader and online gamer. We will remember him always for his gentle kindness and many stories of his antics and adventures around the world.
Al's family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Kate Forman and the staff on the oncology unit at KBRH.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Alan's name may be made to Ronald McDonald House (BC & Yukon) 4567 Heather Street, Vancouver BC, V5Z 0C9 or to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Foundation (Oncology Unit) 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
