March 20, 1945 - February 27, 2021
On Saturday 27th February 2021, Alfred William Hamilton Curtis, known as Bill, sadly passed away in his sleep in Stanley, Falkland Islands.
Bill was born in Trail BC on 20th March 1945 and was youngest of 2 sons of Jim & Barbara Curtis and is survived by his elder brother Russell Curtis. He grew up in Trail and started his working life there, and spoke so fondly of this part of his life in his final years despite living the final 39+ years on the other side of the world.
Bill attended Selkirk College in Castlegar where he earned a Diploma in Aircraft Landing Systems. With this qualification, Bill and his family settled in Sandspit, Haida Gwaii, where he worked as a Systems technician for the Ministry of Transport. It was here that Bill found himself in so many ways, fishing, trapping and hunting.
He was always an adventurous, outdoors kind of person spending much of his spare time in his youth with his good friend Jim Stevens. Jim came to Stanley to help Bill build his house there.
He met and married his wife Barbara and they had three children, Jimmy, Annette and Bonnie. Bonnie was born in the Falkland Islands after the pioneering spirit in him had led to him taking his young family to the remote Islands to set up a new life in 1981.
After a difficult start, including living through a war, the family and Islands both grew and prospered. Bill leaves behind 3 children, 10 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren.
He will be remembered for many things but most of all the love for his family and willingness to help in every situation.
Bills adventures are now over and he can be reunited with his Mother and Father who he missed greatly.
