April 5, 1935 - February 22, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Ann Elizabeth Read (Morrison). Ann passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021 with her family by her side.
Ann was born on April 5, 1935 in Melbourne, Australia. The oldest of five children, she had a special bond with her youngest sibling and only brother Ken, that endured over the many years and miles they were apart.
Ann married Clifford John Read in 1957, and in 1969 they moved from Australia to Canada, settling in Trail, BC. Ann was the mother of four girls, doting Nana of 9, and great-grandma of 3. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, and a lover of babies (the "baby whisperer"), books and music. She was the beloved nanny for many years to the Hillier and Ravestein families.
Ann loved music and singing. She was so proud of both her Dad's ability to play all instruments as the Director of a marching band and her Mom's beautiful singing voice.
She was self-taught on the piano, further educating herself with lessons as an adult, and prioritized music lessons for her girls, going without to make sure there was money for lessons or a new violin. She cherished her Yamaha piano.
She loved fashion as well, and worked in custom clothing on Little Collins Street in Melbourne, and was also active in youth church groups and in the Baptist Church.
Ann had a knack for fixing things, in another time and era she may have been an engineer or an electrician like her Dad, and she was very coordinated. Her daughters will recall that when she was pushed to join them in tennis or a softball game, she would surprise them with the balls she would hit and the quick catches she would make. She was also a good artist, fostering a love of drawing in Rae.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Adele (Dolly) Morrison, and sisters Carol and Margaret, and is survived by her husband of 64 years Cliff, sister Phyllis (Peter) in Queensland, brother Ken (Leanne) in Melbourne, numerous nephews and nieces and close girlfriends in Australia, and daughters Cristine, Raelene (Roger), Sandra, and Allison (Grant), and grandchildren Nick (Marylin), Bryce (Paula), Eric, Adam, Allie, Meg, Izzy, Dan and Chris, and great-grandchildren Noah, Zave and Arabella.
We would like to thank the RNs, LPNs, Care Aides and all staff at Rosewood Village that were directly involved with our mother's care for their compassion.
