In Loving Memory Of

ANTONIO GIANNUBILO

It is with mixed emotions that we sadly announce the passing of Antonio Giannubilo on

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011.

Antonio was born April 8th, 1921 in Serracapriola, Italy. He was the youngest and only boy with 9 older sisters. He had to forgo any formal education and go to work at age 10 to support his mother and sisters.

In 1948, he married the love of his life, Vincenza, and in 1950, a son, Casimiro, was born. Times were very tough, so he made a life changing decision to leave his new bride in 1951 to find a new life for them in Canada. After many hardships and years of hard work, Antonio was able to call for his wife and son from Italy to come to Canada in 1955.

Antonio first worked for Cominco in underground mines in Yellowknife and then went to their smelter in Trail, B.C.

Antonio, through hard work and dedication, raised a family which included two new daughters, Anna Maria (1956) and Maria Luisa (1958). The Giannubilo family prospered and after thirty years of working at Cominco, Antonio was able to retire in 1985. With the family grown up, he and Vincenza moved to Kelowna in 1993 to live their retirement dreams. Eleven years later they moved again to Kamloops to be closer to their daughters and families and in 2004, they built a home here.

In Kamloops, Antonio and Vincenza had the wonderful pleasure of becoming great grandparents, and lived a happy life until Vincenza’s sudden and devastating death in 2008. Antonio’s emotional and physical health suffered greatly for two years until mercifully he laid down on his bed and went to sleep for one last time on January 26th, 2011.

Antonio’s passing will be mourned by his son Casimiro (Alev), daughters Anna Maria (Gord), and Maria Luisa (Andy), along with 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
