It's with profound sorrow that the family of Arlene Almanza announces her passing on January 4, 2018. Arlene passed away peacefully, with her children by her side, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Arlene's family moved west and settled in the Rossland/Trail area. After graduation, she went to Washington State University and obtained a degree in Social Work. Over time, Arlene moved back to Trail, BC and worked as a Social Worker at the Trail Regional Hospital for over 25 years.
Arlene had a wise and tremendous heart and was passionate about many things. Some of those loves included gardening, reading, travelling the world, playing with her grandchildren, her pets, and hiking, especially in the canyons of southwestern United States. She also loved to pick huckleberries; her secret spots will forever remain a mystery.
Arlene was predeceased by both her parents, Benjamin and Jean Coon. She is survived by her four children, Sharon, Eric, Julie, David, her seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and her sister, Marion Beattie.
Arlene's family and friends wish to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Castleview Care Centre. In their exceptional care, Arlene was afforded compassion, friendship and dignity. They also wish to thank Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services for all their assistance and kindness.
With respect to Arlene's wishes, a private ceremony will be held. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
